Synopsis - Planned Extinction!
Wonder Woman learns from Gorilla City’s general Tolifhar that an alien brought by her near their location was responsible for killing his soldiers. She is confused and asked as to what she did two days responds that she was vacationing at a lake with Steve Trevor. There, they were contacted by Etta Candy who informed them about an asteroid heading for Earth.
After receiving its projected flight path, Diana flew away to stop the asteroid and destroyed it, hoping it would disintegrate into smaller pieces she could easily deal with it. The opposite happens however and one of the large pieces heads toward Earth, though Diana is able to reduce its speed, thus preventing any disaster. Tolifhar states that he sent two of his men to check the site where it drowned into the sea after noticing strange lights coming from it, but they were killed by an alien beast. The next day it killed more gorillas as well as their domestic animals.
The general invites Diana on an expedition to hunt the beast and she agrees, deciding to search the asteroid it came in to gather more information first. At the crash site, she notices that the asteroid’s insides contained a vessel filled with alien technology in addition to chains and strange tubes with a green liquid, theorizing it was fed with the liquid while chained up. She also infers from a digital map that it was originally heading towards a giant star or a black hole. She takes the vessel to Tolifhar and tells him what she learned. He however refuses to subdue and interrogate it, preferring to kill.
As she begins clearing the path for the gorillas, they are suddenly attacked by the alien beast. Diana gets captured in its tail and is unable to break free from its grip. The gorillas hit it with a RPG, making it turn its attention towards them and releasing her As the pound it with more rockets, it disappears but remerges from beneath the ground trapping Diana and Tolifhar.
In the beast’s grip, her thoughts merge with him and she learns that it eats up species and was sent to a black hole by an alien civilization that poisoned itself to subdue it. As he demands she take her to the Amazons so he can eat them and replenish his strength, Diana focuses her mind on standing peacefully at a beach. As it demands it give her information instead of focusing on the beach, Diana conditions that it release Tolifhar and it does.
The beast tells her that it wants knowledge and strength by consuming various species, leading Diana to respond that it only uses it for killing. As she encourages him to use its power for good like her, it rejects. This leads Diana to realize that it has only darkness and doesn’t care about anyone, thus it cannot be redeemed. The beast realizes then it has been reattached to the green liquid it was with in the ship, as she had figured out it was keeping him sedated. As it falls unconscious, Diana decides to put it back in the ship and send it to the black hole it was meant to go.
Synopsis - Couldn't Live
Captain Steve Trevor goes after the hideout of a terrorist group called P.A.N.D.O.R.A. after learning about their location in an underground complex abandoned by the government some years ago, wanting to help Wonder Woman in whatever way he can. After being beaten up, he remembers how Batman told him at the Justice League Watchtower that he wouldn’t survive long if he keeps trying to help Diana, but has delivered some equipment to his house he can use in a fight.
He throws a flashbang grenade at the terrorists surrounding him, before reaching their monitor room where he learns about Diana entering the facility. After taking care of the guards, he tries to learn her location but is alerted by an evacuation alarm. Following the trail of destruction to find Diana, he bangs across a wall, worried she might be harmed in a fight with the terrorists. The wall collapses in an explosion though he survives and finds her having subdued them.
As he realizes he needlessly worried about her, Diana appreciates her gesture of risking his own life to protect hers just like she would for him. One of the robots of P.A.N.D.O.R.A. who is still active tries targeting her, but is quickly destroyed when she swings a giant piece of metal at it, before she tells Steve she couldn’t live without him too.
Synopsis - Year One - Part Three
This story is reprinted from Wonder Woman (Volume 5) #6
Reaching Steve’s base with the invisible jet, Diana is overwhelmed by surprised people and officers. As she cannot understand English, she is scared when some of the officers try to bring her into custody to check her, believing she’s under attack, and she automatically defends herself, with scared agents drawing their guns. Steve stops everyone, and tells Diana to calm down and trust him, and to follow his colleague. While Diana is photographed, Steve gets a medical checks that reveals several irreparable wounds he had healed while he was in Themyscira, as he reported. Initially the officials do not believe to Steve’s declarations, but Trevor’s own medical results, the invisible jet whose mantle decayed after landing, the advanced weapons Diana brought with her and the Amazon herself all speak in favour of Steve’s version.
Still, the main difficulty is language and thus Diana is locked up in jail until the Army finds out better what her intentions are: Steve is enraged by this, but luckily Etta Candy knows an archaeologist, Dr. Barbara Ann Minerva, who is an expert on Amazon lore and was able to put together the different idioms Diana used to speak to form the Amazon’s language and communicate with her. Diana tries to explain that in the night, the Gods of Olympus visited her in form of animals, bearing gifts of power. Initially dismissed as a crazy story, Diana’s words gain weight when she literally dislodges the cell door with her bare hands.
