Interestingly, the stir caused amongst fans by Diana's actions in this storyline
would be repeated a few years later in the build up to DC's "Infinite Crisis"
crossover event. In a story called "Sacrifice" that spanned several
Superman titles and concluded in "Wonder Woman"
219, Diana kills Max Lord by snapping his neck in order to free a mind controlled
Superman from his thrall.
Diana has always been an Amazon Warrior as well as an ambassador for peace and
in my opinion her actions are not a contradiction in terms. When there is no
other way and she is faced by a monster with no redeeming qualities and who
can never be turned to good, she will do what is necessary - making
her a unique and, in my view, more courageous hero than her male peers Superman
and Batman.

Wonder Woman and Aquaman eventually track down the perpetrator of the crime,
the Godling Triton, and Diana snaps his neck and kills him in cold blooded revenge.
