As mentioned previously, Byrne relocates Diana from Boston to the fictional
Gateway City (effectively San Francisco). He also discarded her established
supporting cast of Julia and Vanessa Kapatelis and instead replaced them with
almost carbon copies in the form of mother and daughter Helena and Cassie Sandsmark,
although he had plans for Cassie to become the new "Wonder Girl" down
the road. He also introduced a potential new love interest in the form of police
officer Mike Schorr, who seemed to again mirror the Perez character Inspector
Indelicato.
Diana is tortured by Desaad and is shown to endure extaordinary levels of pain
as Darksied questions her.
